Fruit Attraction 2026: Three days of connections, partnerships and new opportunities

    by Tina Scheffer

More than 121,000 visitors, around 2,500 exhibitors and professionals from over 150 countries. Fruit Attraction 2026 was a record-breaking edition, and we were pleased to be part of it for the very first time!

From October 6–8, Verbruggen Palletizing Solutions joined forces with Upmann Verpackungsmaschinen and our Spanish partner Sensapack at Fruit Attraction in Madrid. Three days filled with interesting conversations, international connections and opportunities to strengthen existing relationships and build new ones.

Why Fruit Attraction?

Fruit Attraction has grown into one of the most important international meeting points for the fruit and vegetable industry. And this year’s figures certainly confirm its growing importance. According to organizer IFEMA MADRID, the 2026 edition attracted more than 121,000 industry professionals from over 150 countries. Around 2,500 companies from 78 countries exhibited across an impressive 162,000 square metres of exhibition space. On the second day alone, more than 55,200 visitors attended the event, setting a new single-day attendance record for IFEMA MADRID.

Madrid’s geographical location also makes Fruit Attraction particularly interesting for companies operating internationally. With direct connections to many Latin American cities and the advantage of a shared language, the event brings together businesses from Europe and across the Atlantic.

For Verbruggen, this international character was an important reason to participate. As we continue to strengthen our presence in different markets, events like Fruit Attraction provide valuable opportunities to meet potential customers and partners, reconnect with existing relationships and better understand the needs of the industry.

An interesting detail for us was that potatoes took centre stage at Fruit Attraction 2026. With a dedicated International Potato Symposium highlighting the importance and future of this sector, it was a particularly relevant edition for Verbruggen. With our roots in agricultural palletizing and many years of experience in the potato industry, this is a market we know well.

A successful trade show starts long before the doors open

Visitors usually see the finished result: a welcoming stand, a team ready to answer questions and everything looking as though it has always been there. But behind the scenes, a lot of preparation goes into making that happen.

In fact, preparations for a trade show often start almost a year in advance. From reserving the right stand location and developing the stand design to planning marketing campaigns, arranging merchandise and coordinating the people who will be there. And that’s just part of the list!

We work with a detailed timeline, planning backwards from the opening day to make sure everything comes together at the right moment. For Fruit Attraction, this also meant regular coordination with Upmann and Sensapack to align our preparations and create a stand that represented all three companies.

Until recently, I coordinated most of these activities myself. However, since April, our marketing team has been strengthened by the arrival of Anne Oosterhof, our Marketing & Events Coordinator. Anne has taken over the coordination of our trade shows, allowing me to focus more on our global marketing strategy and managing our team.

Together, we travelled to Madrid a few days before the exhibition to make sure everything was ready for day one. And as anyone who has ever organized a trade show knows, there are always a few last-minute challenges to solve!

Strengthening relationships and building new connections

For us, Fruit Attraction was about much more than showcasing our palletizing solutions. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with existing customers, meet potential new partners and strengthen our network in the international fruit and vegetable industry.

One of the highlights was being able to introduce José Luis Sancho Ezquerra from Sensapack, our Spanish partner, to several of our existing customers. Having a trusted local partner who understands the market, speaks the language and is close to our customers is an important part of how we work internationally.

We also had valuable conversations with potential other partners, exploring opportunities for future cooperation. These personal meetings are exactly what makes participating in international trade shows worthwhile. And that’s something I particularly enjoy about these events. You can have countless online meetings and email conversations, but meeting people face to face adds something different. It helps build trust, strengthens relationships and often opens doors to new opportunities.

Stronger together

Another important part of our participation was the collaboration with Upmann Verpackungsmaschinen and Sensapack. Each company brings its own expertise to the table. By combining our knowledge and experience, we were able to offer visitors a broader perspective on packaging and palletizing automation and discuss how different solutions can complement each other throughout the packaging process. Participating in an international trade show requires a considerable investment of time, effort and resources. Having the right partners makes a real difference, not only during the preparations but also throughout the event itself. I would therefore like to thank the teams at Upmann Verpackungsmaschinen and Sensapack for their commitment, cooperation and the positive atmosphere throughout these days in Madrid. And of course, a big thank you to our own Verbruggen colleagues who contributed to making our first participation in Fruit Attraction a success.

Looking back and moving forward

Looking back, our first Fruit Attraction has been a positive experience. We made new connections, strengthened existing customer relationships and explored opportunities to further develop our international partner network.

The exhibition once again showed us the value of meeting people face to face. Because ultimately, good business starts with good relationships.

Meanwhile, preparations for our 2027 trade show calendar are already underway. With events across different countries and industries, we look forward to continuing these conversations and showing how our palletizing and end-of-line automation solutions can help businesses improve their operations.

Thank you to everyone who visited us in Madrid. We hope to see you again soon!
